4 Common Myths About Chiropractic Care

With new health trends being highlighted by the media every day, it’s no wonder there’s a lot of misinformation getting passed around about what you can expect from each of these methods. With this information overload comes the challenge of deciphering what is actually true and what is just plain propaganda. The problem is, many of those that report or comment on these health care options are lacking the experience or education to really tell you what is right for your body.

In an effort to set the record straight so that you can be free to make an informed choice for yourself, here are 4 common myths about Chiropractic care.

Chiropractor

It’s painful

Those that have never been to a chiropractor may fear that getting adjusted will be a painful experience. Much of this myth stems from the “popping” sound that people associate with a chiropractic adjustment, and the assumption that this must mean an uncomfortable or even painful incident. This common sound is simply the release of gas between two joints (similar to the sound made when someone “cracks” their knuckles) and creates little if any discomfort.

“Traditional” Care (surgery & medicine) is a safer route than Chiropractic

Because traditional medicine has been the most prevalent approach in our society, it has been mistakenly assumed that it must also be the safest. Just watch one prescription drug commercial on tv and listen to the endless list of potential side effects, and you can’t help but question the validity of this argument.

In stark contrast to traditional medical intervention, chiropractic care is a completely natural and non-invasive means of addressing your medical needs. Rather than introducing new and unnatural instruments and chemicals to your body, chiropractic care leverages the way that your body was designed to function properly by adjusting misalignments in the spine in order to optimize the function of your central nervous system.

It’s only a temporary fix

Chiropractic care can provide long-term relief from any number of ailments, including correcting injuries endured as a result of an athletic or motor vehicle injury, and much more. The results are tangible, and the care provided can reverse and even prevent further and future damage from taking place. Far from a temporary fix, chiropractic care can actually eliminate the need for traditional medical intervention to treat nearly any health concern.

It won’t work for me

In a culture where traditional medicine is the norm, the very nature of chiropractic care can seem very strange to some people, leading them to believe that it really doesn’t make a difference at all. The truth is, chiropractic care is an extremely effective and natural way to care for your body.

Your central nervous system, which is housed in and protected by your spine, is connected to your entire body and is basically the message delivery center that tells your body how to function. When a nerve is pinched by a misalignment in the spine, it causes interference in the delivery of these messages, which can lead to any number of health issues (depending on where along the spine the pinched nerve is located). By adjusting these misalignments, we can remove this interference and allow the body to work at an optimum level, which can reduce or eliminate the need for medicines, surgeries, or other outside medical interference that may not actually be necessary.
