The South is synonymous with good barbecue and southern home cooking. However, that doesn’t mean we’re lacking in healthier options as well. Nashville is home to a host of great restaurants that offer healthy options without sacrificing anything in flavor. Here are some of our favorites:

Sam & Zoe’s

More than just a coffee shop, Sam & Zoe’s also offers smoothies as well as a breakfast and lunch menu that includes healthy wraps, sandwiches, salads, and more. What really makes their menu special (and lands them a spot on our list) is that their deli meat is free of nitrates and preservatives, they use organic and sustainable ingredients as much as possible, and all unused food is donated to the homeless shelter. (Healthy, and philanthropic! What’s not to love?)

This healthy spot also happens to be the second oldest coffee shop in Nashville, automatically making it worth a visit!

Sloco

This 12 South lunch spot tells you everything you need to know in their slogan – “Local. Organic. Quick.” Their delicious sandwiches are served up with organic and locally sourced ingredients, and they’ll never serve you produce that’s not in season. It’s all part of their mission to provide real, affordable food to the people of Nashville.

The Silly Goose

The Silly Goose is an East Nashville favorite – offering a healthy selection of locally sourced entrees that are packed with flavor. With everything from sandwiches, salads, and couscous at lunch, to crisp duck confit, sunburst trout, and a multitude of other options at dinner (not to mention their Sunday Brunch offering), you’re sure to find something you’ll love.

The Wild Cow

Located in the heart of East Nashville, The Wild Cow serves up Vegetarian and Vegan fare that is mostly locally sourced and cruelty free. Even better, they make nearly all of their dressings, sauces, soup stocks and more in-house, and they boast a kitchen with no freezer or microwave, so you know you’re eating fresh, wholesome, and healthily prepared food!

Khan’s Desserts

What meal would be complete without a little dessert to finish things off? Fortunately there’s Khan’s Desserts to the rescue with sweet treats that you can feel good about eating. This vegan bakery features a high percentage of organic materials and has crafted an assortment of delectable desserts that are rich in texture and flavor, but are free of bleached flour or sugar, artificial color or flavors, and preservatives. What’s not to love?
