You'll hear this word in every chiropractic office, often wrapped in more mystery than it deserves. Here's the plain version: a subluxation is a spinal joint that has lost its normal position or motion, and is irritating the nerves around it. That's it. No fear campaign required.

What's actually going on
When a segment stops moving correctly, three things follow: the joint itself becomes inflamed, nearby muscles tighten to guard it, and the nerves exiting at that level get irritated, which is how a stuck joint in your spine can produce symptoms somewhere else entirely. Adjustments restore normal motion to that specific segment. Not a cure-all, a specific correction to a specific mechanical problem.

Is a subluxation the same as a dislocation?
No. A dislocation is a joint fully out of place, an emergency. A subluxation in chiropractic usage is a joint with restricted or altered motion that irritates surrounding nerves.
How do you find them?
Motion palpation, feeling how each segment moves, plus posture analysis and your complimentary X-ray. We show you what we find on your own imaging.
Do subluxations cause disease?
We don't make that claim. What restricted segments demonstrably do is produce local pain, muscle guarding, and nerve irritation, and correcting them addresses those directly.
How often do I need adjusting?
As often as your plan requires and no more. Frequency tapers as your spine holds correction, the goal is stability, not dependency.
